My 81 Chevy Camaro

Yet Again... Another Camaro...85

Updated 8-19-01 Yes, well what can I say? I love camaros. I havent updated this page for a good long while. I got this car about a month after i wrecked the brown one for 1000 dollars. But I am already ruining this one. Lets start with the bra. It is on there because the front nose clip is cracked. Thats not my fault. It was like that. well..on to what I have done to it. I hit a dip which i didnt see coming and i cracked the oil pan but that is soon to be fixed. I took it to an industrial park and did some donuts and hit some bumps and broke an exhaust mount. i broke the windshield wiper arm, dont ask, and now i need a windshield wiper arm and a motor as well. The car came to me needing rear shocks, tires, front wheel bearings, and engine mounts. It has neon light all over it. Undercarriage and interior. I have a nice system in it now though. My JVC head unit, going to a 780 watt sony amp which powers two Pioneer 10" IMPP subs in a bandpass box. Its pleasing me for now. The louvers are the ones off of my 83. And i recently found out that there are atleast 2 more white camaros with bra's and louvers in my area. I saw one of them but not the other yet. The dissappointing thing about this car is that it has a 2.8 liter v6. Me and my dad are talking about getting him a new engine for his truck so we can rebuild his 350 for my car. I like that idea. I NEED MORE POWER!! alrighty well im outof here... see ya.
Updated 3-16-02 This car has fallen apart. It has a broken frame, it needs a tranny, it needs a windshield, it needs a lot and it doesn't run right. I am hopefully selling it soon for 500 bucks. I bought another camaro. A 1991 Camaro RS 3.1 liter. I wanted a V8 but i didnt get it. Oh well, this will be a V8 car eventually.

My New Baby... My 83 Camaro Berlinetta...MY 83 IS DEAD!!!

Updated 12-29-00 This is my 1983 Camaro Berlinetta. I got it on Christmas day of 2000. I had no clue that I was even getting it. Even after I opened the chilton's manual and the keys and the louvers. I had no idea. My parents had to literally drag me to the front door so that I could look outside. I only had four hours of sleep that night that is why. My brother and sister woke me up at 7:00 that morning. I hated them for it. I have big plans for my Berlinetta. Well...I'll try to keep updating this page as much as i can. I dont know how much time I will have with school and work but I will try.
Updated 1-15-01 Hmmm..what to say about my baby. She now has the blue lights as you can see. I use them because I am a firefighter. I bought two road gear twelve inch sub woofers for it for thirty dollars each just to hold me over for now and my dad had a pioneer 150 watt amplifier and two altec lansing four and a half inch tweeters. I also got two crossover networks for them from my 81 camaro. They were in the truck when I got the car. OH! For a head unit I got a JVC. It is great. I am eventually going to get two pioneer twelve inch subwookers for the car hopefully. Ill sell the old ones to my friend then. I want to get a new amplifier also. I want to put a 350 in it with headers and straight dual exhause also.. but that will have to wait until I sell my old car. Well.. I'll update this eventually... But for now...BYE
Updated 4-21-01 I totalled my car into a telephone pole on Easter Sunday. I was on my way to look at some speakers ani didnt make it. I hit the curb which ripped the sidewall on my tire an flattened it and then i hit the telephone pole. Believe it or not, i was only going about 30 mph. It may not look like it but i was. I am alreadyt looking for another. This whole ordeal is very bad. I broke my finger and banged up my knee. I think i messed up my head and my back as well. Thank god for seatbelts. The seatbelt saved my life. It burnt my neck but if i hadnt had it on i would have went through the windshield. Nothing at all happened to the pole. Pics re at the bottom and on the gallery page.

The first picture is the car when i got it............ the next picture is as of 4-6-00.
About my car
My car is a 1981 Chevrolet Camaro. I was searching the internet for used cars on autotrader.com. I came across a white 81 camaro for sale. I looked into more info on it and found out that it was only $700 and less than a mile from my house. I told my dad about it and called the owner over the weekend. The next weekend i just happened to be at my grandmom's house for the night. My grandmom's house is just around the corner from the car. I gave the owner another call and me and my grandfather went over to take a look. The owner told us that the exhaust manifold was leaking but it wasn't a big leak. I offered him $500 dollars and he said that it would be great. I also mentioned that my dad wanted to take a look at it before I got it and that we may not be around until the next weekend. Surely enough me and my dad visited him the next weekend. My dad thought that it was a good car for $500. He also pointed out that it still had stock wheels on it. We went home and my mom went out to get money because my bank was closed. We gave the owner a call again that same day and went over and got the car. We drove it back to my house and put it in the driveway. The next morning I was trying to see if my dad's old car radio that he had in the basement would fit because my car doesn't have one. NO RADIO?! I found some speaker boosters in the trunk and my dad has an amplifier that I can use 'when I'm ready for it'. We took out the back seats and found holes on each side of the car. Rust had made holes completely through the metal around the seatbelt ankors in the bottom of the wheel wells. Right now it is sitting on the street waiting for us to help it.
Updated 12-31-99:
Me and my dad worked on the engine some a while back. For christmas i got shocks for the front and some air shocks for the back. The air shocks really improve the look of the car. The two rusted out holes are still there. I have installed a radio and a cb radio into my car. The next thing we are going to do is probably put the u-joints on that I also got for christmas. We have found a leak in the exhaust pipe. We have to fix that and the holes for the car to pass inspection in january. I have recently tried to install the 10" home stereo speakers and the amplifier into my trunk. There is one problem that I am still working with. For some odd reason there is no power getting to the amplifier.
Updated 2-17-00: I'm back... My car still isn't doing too well. I painted the hood scoop silver-grey. While I had it off, I washed the hood. Bad idea. Water got in the piston chamber and froze so my car didn't start for about 1 month. It works now.. I just need to fix the brake line, patch the 2 holes in the floorboard (yes, still), and fix the brake line.
Updated 2-18-99: Me and my dad are going to ask my dad's friend if he can get on the hoot and hollar to see if any junk yards in the area have headers for a 6 cylinder. If we can find them then I might put them on along with the dual exhaust that I ordered. All in all the car is coming along pretty good so far. I am hoping that I can get headers for my car so that it wont sound like it does. My dad has one of his friends looking at a '69 Dodge Charger for me. I really want one because I want to own the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard. The last time that my dad's friend talked to the guy about the charger, about 4 years ago, he wanted to restore it but it has just been sitting in his yard. Well thats all that I can think of now and I had better get back to my school work like I am supposed to be doing. I'll get on and fill in the gaps of what is happenning whenever I can.
Updated 2-23-00: Wefixed my brake line. We recently went to my dad's friend's house and he said that he has the tools to mold sheet metal and the welder to put it in. We might go up there and get the holes welded up this saturday. We are also looking for some cheap 6 cyl headers. After the holes comes the exhaust and then inspection. After it gets inspected we will get the engine tuned up. Then my friend will drive it to school about once a week. That should be fun. When I get done with my car I want it to have atleast a little bit of power. Right now it has none whatsoever. Well, the bell is about to ring so I've got to go.
Updated 3-13-00: We went to my dad's friend's house and got the joles fixed so that is now taken care of. we also fdixed the trunk.....put new weather stripping in, and fixed the holes in it. we got some spray tar witch is also a weather thing so we put that in the trunk. My dad got a new distributer cap and rotor and put them in while I was at work last saturday. The car works 100% better now. It doesn't miss but anymore. I took out the amplifier and speakers because the amp was broken. Well, I'll type more later.
Updated 3-27-00: My dad took all of my old exhaust off last saturday while I was at work. We tried to figure out how the new exhaust would go on last sunday but we had no luck... My new exhaust is made to come off of headers but we cant get headers for a 229 V6. The only people that make them are Hooker and they are $365. I'm not gonna spend that kind of money for headers for a V6... My dad replaced the idler arm on saturday and we still have the rear shackles to replace. My neighbor keeps telling me that I will have a brand new car when I am done.
Updated 9-3-00: Sorry i haven't been updating this for a while. I have been busy with work and working on my car and i am also a firefighter so I hang out at the firehouse a lot. Well let's see... what have I done to my car that I can talk about. I put a cd player in it just recently. I started working on the body. I sanded down some of the bad spots and primered them. I have also sanded and primered the whole left front fender. I got a new trunk lid from Jimmie's Auto Parts and sanded that down and primered it and got it almost in place perfectly on my car. It came yellow. I have installed Galls wig-wags for firehouse use. They are faste as anything. I installed blue halogen grill lights also. They alternate like the wig wags but not near as fast! Me and my dad put a new oil sender in because my old one was shot. I still need rear shackles put in but there is one problem with that. When i let the air out of my shocks... my tail pipes hit my leaf springs... we haven't figured out what to do about that quite yet. I ordered new catalytic converters, two of them because i have dual exhaust. I order all of my parts from JC Whitney. They have pretty reasonable prices. The catalytic converters are only 56 dollars each. My uncle is planning to come up from the south to visit and he is going to bring me a 305. Finally! I can get rid of my stupid v6. I can't wait!!! I have my permit now so I am driving but i can't drive my car because it wont pass inspection... Stupid Laws!!! I can get my license on January 20th. I can't wait for that either. I am still waiting for my neighbour's friend to get in touch with me because he has doors, fenders, and wheels for really cheap because he doesn't want them anymore... he just needed the roof off of the car for his trans am. OK..... I'll try to update it more but i am not sure if I will be able to because of school...
Updated 10-29-00: I need to update this more often... Anyways... I now have catylitic converters on my car... my dad put them on yesterday while I was at work. I put a new air filter in it last weekend. Racing pedals because they look good...heh heh heh. I still need to put the rear shackles on it. I have to lift it to do that. I have to get it to tech school somehow because i can lift it there. I take automotive technology at tech school. This way i can do all the work I need to do to my car for free.
Updated 12-25-00: I got a new baby for Christmas. An 83 Camaro Berlinetta. That means that i am gonna take some of the stuff out of my 81, fix it up so that it passes inspection and then sell it for $1500. If you want more information on it let me know. Email me at terryjphillips@home.com. There is a link at the bottom of the page. Here is the pic of my new baby.
Updated 3-16-02 I have sold this car. Finally. I sold it for 700 bucks but hey, 700 is better than none.
